Channel Letters

The Basics of Channel Letters

Looking for a storefront sign that stands out from the crowd? If so, consider a channel letter sign. These custom-made signs are comprised of three-dimensional letters made from versatile materials such as aluminum, plexiglass and lexan. Highly flexible, these letters are often illuminated internally, either with LED or neon lights, and adorn a variety of public and commercial buildings. Channel letter signs are available in a variety of fonts, colors, sizes and arrangements, thereby providing business owners with the specific presentation style that best matches their individual brands.

Which Types of Channel Letters Should I Choose?

You can find channel letters in Houston no matter where you look: shopping centers, office parks, retail stores, churches, schools, and more. There are two methods for mounting channel letters: they can either be flush mounted, which means that each letter is individually attached to a building wall or facade, or they are mounted onto a raceway, which is a rectangular structure that holds both the letters and electrical components for lighting them.

Our signs of Houston channel letters are available in the following styles:

Open-face channel letters – As its name suggests, open-face channel letter signs don’t enclose the light source behind colored acrylic, but rather exposes it (which is why this style is also known as exposed neon channel letters). Due to the exposed illumination, open-face channel letters are an ideal option for businesses that operate at night, such as restaurants, nightclubs and bars.

Internally lit channel letters – In contrast to their open-faced counterparts, internally lit channel letters have colored acrylic faces that conceal the LED or neon lights that illuminate them. Such signs can either be front lit so that the “faces” of the letters are illuminated, or back lit to create a “halo” effect behind the letters.

Reverse lit channel letters – Also known as reverse pan, back lit or halo lit, this channel letters style resembles backlit letters in that the illumination appears behind the letters, rather in front or inside of them. The main distinction is that these channel letters are mounted to a raceway sign that conceals the electrical equipment that powers it.
